| Fundraising is stressful, lonely work, especially in a small shop. I know. Ive been there, and thats why Ive committed a major part of my consulting practice to professional coaching. Especially in one and two-person development offices (and that describes the situation in the vast majority of Christian organizations), its a tremendous boon to be able to talk with and bounce ideas off a professional fundraiser/friend/sympathetic ear. Coaching is good for newcomers to fundraising and seasoned professionals alike. Its also an economical form of consultation, since much of my interaction with the persons I coach is by telephone and e-mail. |
Working with Rebekah as a mentor for fundraising has been a lifeline for me. I came into my role as executive director of Mennonite Women USA having no background in fundraising, so the need to find new funding streams for the organization seemed a daunting task. Rebekahs regular encouragement, her belief in money as ministry, and her many practical tips on things like setting up a database, grant writing, communicating with donors, and writing appeal letters have helped immensely. We are now seeing new financial stability emerging for our organization!
